2016-17 Prodigy Beginner/Novice Classes

Prodigy Classes will be starting again in September. At this time we are running two classes with the hopes of getting the others started in November. Last season was very successful and the wrestlers who participated came a long way in both their wrestling technique and athleticism. September will start the following classes: Primary Class – 3-5 year old, no contact, parent assisted class Primary Tech is pre-beginner class that consists of no contact while learning the basic skills and athleticism needed to wrestle. Parents are asked to assist throughout the 45 minute weekly lesson. This gives both wrestler and parent a chance to learn the basics while bonding with one another in their first wrestling experience. Each Primary Tech class is limited to 12 wrestlers each month!  Dates: Monthly classes run from September through May Cost: $40 + Tax per month Days and Times: FALL: (September-October) Wednesdays 5:10-5:55 WINTER: (November-March) Wednesdays 5:30-5:15 (and one other night) SPRING: (April-May) TBD Prep Class – Beginner Class to learn technique and how to work with a partner A natural starting point for wrestlers, Prodigy’s Prep class continues an emphasis on basic drills while starting to use the basic skills needed to learn techniques with a partner. Prep Tech uses a systematic approach for wrestlers to master the techniques that every wrestler must have. Each Prep Tech Class is limited to 16 Wrestlers each month Dates: Monthly classes run from September through May Cost: $50 + Tax per month Days and Times: FALL: (September-October) Monday 6:00-7:00 pm WINTER: (November-March) Monday 5:30-6:30 (and one other night to be added later) SPRING: (April-May)...
Why Prodigy is offering FREE Live Wrestling Nights during the fall of 2016

Why Prodigy is offering FREE Live Wrestling Nights during the fall of 2016

Did you say “free wrestling”? Why Prodigy is offering FREE Live Wrestling Nights during the fall of 2016 Prodigy Wrestling Academy is offering FREE Live Wrestling Nights during the preseason in 2016. During September and October, every Sunday night (6:30-7:30 pm) and Wednesday night (7:00-8:00 pm) will consist intense live wrestling sessions. Why would Prodigy offer something like this for FREE? One reason and one reason only…to bring wrestlers who want and need mat time together in order to get better. Last fall, we noticed that many schools were offering their own open mats. We applaud those coaches and schools for their dedication. Yet, this spreads out the wrestlers at many different schools when they should be wrestling together at one location so that everyone can benefit. Another trend in Preseason Wrestling is “Competition Nights” put on by local schools which were drawing huge numbers of athletes because they were offered free of charge. Prodigy saw this trend and the tremendous effect that it has on the area wrestlers. What a great opportunity for all wrestlers in this area! So please take an opportunity to look at what we plan to offer to area athletes: 1. Supervised, highly intense live wrestling sessions 2 times a week. 2. Open mats and drill areas for wrestlers playing other sports or that want to drill. 3. A suggested drill workout for athletes who would like to work on their technique through repetition. 4. An economic choice for parents…I mean, it is free! 5. A neutral site with neutral coaches that have no affiliations with any high schools. Once area high school coaches...
Planning your fall training – Wrestle, Play, or Rest (and still Improve!)

Planning your fall training – Wrestle, Play, or Rest (and still Improve!)

As the fall season approaches, now is the time to plan on how this “season before THE SEASON” will prepare you to reach your ultimate goals for this year.  Every wrestler brings in different goals, responsibilities, and needs during the off season.  The wrestler, (and parents and coaches), needs to make a plan that will help that particular wrestler reach their highest potential at the right time.  It really comes down to three options:  Wrestle, Play a fall sport, or rest.  A wrestler can improve while doing any of the three. WRESTLE and TRAIN – Fall training serves two purposes for those who choose to wrestle, training to compete during fall or training to prepare for the upcoming wrestling season.  Wrestlers Training for Fall Competitions: *Usually national, high level tournaments (Super 32 or Asics Preseason Nationals) *High intensity drilling and wrestling culminating in the wrestler being combat ready for tournaments. *Wrestlers tend to be year-round wrestlers and fall is considered the “start” of their season. Wrestlers Training for the Upcoming wrestling Season: *Wrestlers set their sights on long term goals of successful End-of-season Tournament placements.  *Focus on training consistently with a concentration on -improving technique -adding to their technical arsenal -drilling moves repetitively -trying new technique during live situations.    *Tend to have taken some time off during the spring or summer, and now it is time to focus back in on their goals for the upcoming season.    PLAY A FALL SPORT – Fall sports are a great way to stay competitive and still train your body in different ways.  There are overlaps in all sports and certain...
